How to ask us to take something down, and what happens next.
The short version
- Your personal information showing? Email privacy@costnip.com. We hide it first and ask questions later.
- Copyright: send a DMCA notice to copyright@costnip.com. Prices and other facts aren’t copyrighted. You can send a counter-notice if your content was removed by mistake.
- Other legal complaints, such as defamation or trademark, go to legal@costnip.com with the details. EU residents get a reasoned decision and can challenge it.
- We don’t remove accurate reports just because a price looks bad, and we never accept payment to remove content.
This summary helps you read the full text below. It isn’t part of the agreement. If they differ, the full text applies.
1. Your personal information
If a report, photo, post or response on Costnip shows your personal information (for example your name on a receipt, your face, or your phone number), email privacy@costnip.com with the link and what’s shown. We hide personal information first and check afterwards, and aim to do it within hours. You don’t need to prove anything beyond pointing us to it.
If it’s your own report or post, you can withdraw it yourself from your account. If you live somewhere with a right to erasure (such as the EU or UK), you can also ask us to delete personal information about you that someone else posted; we’ll weigh it against the public interest in price information, which usually doesn’t need anyone’s name.
2. Copyright notices (DMCA)
We respect copyright and respond to notices under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Prices, dates and other facts aren’t protected by copyright, but photos, text and other creative material can be.
To report content you believe infringes your copyright, send our designated agent a notice that includes:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- The copyrighted work you believe is infringed (or a representative list if there are many).
- The material on Costnip you want removed, with enough detail for us to find it, including its link.
- Your name, address, phone number and email.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn’t authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.
Designated agent: Copyright Agent, Costnip, Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Email copyright@costnip.com.
We act on complete notices promptly, usually within a few business days, by removing or disabling access to the material and telling the person who posted it. Sending a knowingly false notice can make you liable for damages, including the other side’s legal fees. If you aren’t sure whether something infringes, or whether it might be fair use, consider getting legal advice first.
3. If your content was removed for copyright
We’ll tell you and send you a copy of the notice. If you believe it was removed by mistake or misidentification, you can send a counter-notice to copyright@costnip.com with:
- Your physical or electronic signature, name, address and phone number.
- The material removed and where it appeared before removal.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief it was removed by mistake or misidentification.
- A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for the district where you live (or, outside the US, any district where Costnip may be found) and will accept service of process from the person who sent the notice or their agent.
We’ll forward it to the person who complained. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they’ve filed a court action to stop it, we may restore the material within 10 to 14 business days after receiving your counter-notice. We close the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances, and we may count notices against an account even if no counter-notice is sent.
4. Trademark and impersonation
Using a business’s name to say where a price was paid isn’t a trademark problem, and we don’t remove reports for naming a business. If you believe someone is impersonating your business, has claimed your page without authority, or is using your mark to mislead people, email legal@costnip.com with the content, your mark (and registration number if any), and your relationship to the business. For a claim on your page, see the Business Policy.
5. Other legal complaints, including EU notices
If you believe content is unlawful for another reason, such as defamation, a privacy violation or a court order, email legal@costnip.com with:
- The exact content and its link.
- Which law you think it breaks and why, with any supporting evidence.
- Your name and contact details, and your relationship to the matter.
- A statement that you believe in good faith that the information in your notice is accurate and complete.
We review each request and may ask the contributor for their side. We don’t remove reports merely because a business dislikes the price, and a report of a price is a statement of fact that the contributor stands behind. We may still remove content to protect personal information, enforce our rules or respond to legal requirements. Businesses can also use the dispute process.
If you’re in the European Union
You can tell us about content you consider illegal under the Digital Services Act using the same address. A notice with the details above lets us act on it. When we decide, we’ll explain our decision to you and to the person who posted the content, including the reasons, whether automated tools were involved, and how to challenge it. You can ask us to review a decision by replying within six months, and you may also use a certified out-of-court dispute body or go to court. We handle notices from trusted flaggers with priority. What happens next is described in section 7 (What happens after you write to us).
7. What happens after you write to us
- We confirm receipt, usually within two business days, and tell you if anything is missing from your notice.
- Personal information is hidden first. For other complaints, we review the content, may ask the contributor for their side, and may add a label while we look.
- We decide and tell you. Most decisions take under 14 days. We tell the contributor too, with the reason, unless the law prevents it.
- You can ask for another look. Reply to our decision within 30 days (six months for EU notices). A different reviewer will consider it.
We keep a record of each request and what we did, as the law requires. We publish aggregate numbers about removal requests where we’re required to. We don’t charge for handling requests, and we don’t accept payment to remove content.
